SIX KILLED IN EARLY MORNING MATATU–LORRY CRASH ON KITENGELA–ISINYA ROAD

Six people have lost their lives in a horrific early morning accident involving a matatu and a lorry along the Kitengela–Isinya road.

The crash happened at Korompoi at around 6 a.m., shattering the calm of Saturday morning and leaving mangled wreckage scattered across the tarmac. Witnesses reported that the matatu was heading towards Kitengela when it collided head-on with the lorry, killing several passengers instantly.

Several survivors were rushed to nearby hospitals with serious injuries, while rescue teams worked frantically to free those trapped in the twisted metal. The accident brought traffic to a standstill as emergency crews battled to clear the scene.

Tensions quickly boiled over as angry residents barricaded the road, demanding urgent action to address what they described as a worsening blackspot. Motorists were forced to seek alternative routes as police struggled to control the situation.

This tragedy comes barely a day after another major road disaster in which at least 25 people died when a bus ferrying mourners overturned at the Coptic Roundabout along the Kisumu–Kakamega road. Authorities say the bus, belonging to AIC Naki High School, veered off the road and plunged into a ditch after the driver allegedly lost control.

The twin tragedies have renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved road safety measures. Police have launched investigations into both incidents as the nation mourns the heavy loss of life.
