SOMALI CLUB APOLOGISES AFTER FANS DISRESPECT KENYAN FLAG

Mogadishu City Club has issued a formal apology after videos surfaced showing some of its supporters desecrating the Kenyan flag during a CAF Champions League clash at Nairobi’s Nyayo Stadium on September 20, 2025.
In a statement, the Somali side condemned the incident, terming the behaviour of a section of fans as “unacceptable and contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship.” The club extended its apology to the Government and people of Kenya, pledging full cooperation with authorities pursuing those involved.
Kenyan leaders and football officials had earlier expressed outrage, citing the National Flag, Emblems and Names Act, which criminalises acts of disrespect against the national flag. The club urged its supporters to respect all nations’ symbols and vowed to take internal disciplinary action to prevent a repeat of such incidents.
