SULUHU BLOCKS OPPOSITION LEADER FROM VISITING KENYA FOR MEDICATION

Tanzanian immigration officials blocked Godbless Lema, a member of the opposition Chadema party, from traveling to Nairobi for a medical procedure due to being on a "stop list." Lema was detained for over four hours at the Namanga border, his passport was confiscated, and he was instructed to visit the Immigration Headquarters in Dodoma for more information.
Lema expressed profound anguish over the situation, emphasizing the impact on his scheduled health check and expressing hope for a future without such challenges. The Tanzanian immigration department confirmed the detention and passport confiscation, stating it was a standard procedure for questioning citizens when necessary.
"After waiting for more than 4 hours, I have officially been denied entry to Kenya. My passport has been taken away, and I am now expected to go back to Arusha…I hope this persecution will end with us and should not be passed down to our children,” Lema said in a statement on X.
