TIKTOKER ‘MOSQUITO’ ARRESTED IN MOMBASA OVER VIRAL VIDEO THREATENING RUTO AND CALLING FOR GUERRILLA ACTION

A popular Mombasa-based TikToker known as Hon. Mosquito has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following a viral video that allegedly incited violence and threatened the presidency.

The man, identified as Shedrack Omondi Okindo, was tracked down to a hideout in Miritini, Mombasa County, where officers nabbed him early Tuesday morning.

His arrest stems from a video he posted on August 1, in which he issued a fiery message demanding the release of two individuals associated with an anti-police brutality group called Fighting Brutality and Impunity (FBI).

The two Patrick Osoi, a former Kenya Defence Forces officer, and Jackson Kimani, known as Cop Shakur are reportedly under investigation over undisclosed security concerns. In the video, Mosquito is seen issuing threats and claiming readiness for resistance if the pair were not released.

The video, which quickly spread across TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), prompted national concern and sparked a high-priority investigation by the security agencies. Authorities viewed the clip as a potential trigger for unrest, given its militant tone and wide reach among young online users.

When DCI officers raided the Miritini residence, they recovered two pairs of tactical combat fatigues, a notebook containing statements such as “We are going to apply guerrilla resistance tactics Justice to all freedom heroes,” three mobile phones, and several documents believed to be linked to a fringe political outfit called the Justice Direction Party.

Okindo is currently in police custody as he undergoes further interrogation. He is expected to be arraigned soon on charges related to incitement, issuing threats, and possession of military-grade gear. Authorities are also probing possible links to underground movements that could be using social media platforms to mobilise or radicalise followers.
