Motorists were forced to spend the night on the road following heavy traffic snarl-up along the Naivasha-Gilgil section of the Nakuru –Eldoret (A8) Highway due to a massive traffic jam that has brought movement to a complete halt. The Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LODCA) began issuing alerts on the evening of Tuesday, July 8, at around 8.30 pm, warning of growing congestion between Gilgil and the weighbridge area. By 9.30 am on Wednesday, traffic had come to a standstill in both directions, leaving motorists stranded with no sign of movement. Eyewitnesses suggested that the jam may have been triggered by an accident that involved two trailers near the Gilgil weighbridge.
Traffic officers are reportedly on-site assessing the situation. Frustrated drivers and passengers have turned to social media to express their concerns and call for urgent action to restore order and ease the gridlock. The Motorists Association of Kenya, has called on the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and the National Police Service to intervene. LODCA has reiterated its appeal for drivers to avoid the affected area and explore other routes until traffic flow is restored. Authorities have yet to provide an official update or estimate for when the situation will be resolved. Road users are urged to stay calm, avoid obstructing emergency lanes, and cooperate with traffic officers managing the scene.
