UDA Ready for Repeat Grassroots Elections in 18 Counties

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced it is fully prepared to conduct the repeat phase of its grassroots elections on Saturday, March 14, 2026, across 18 counties, with about eight million voters expected to participate in the exercise.

Speaking during a press briefing held today at the party headquarters in Nairobi, party officials said all logistical arrangements have been finalized ahead of the elections.

The counties set to take part in the repeat elections include Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Embu, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Meru, Samburu, Laikipia, Kericho, Bomet and Vihiga.

According to the party, more than 500,000 candidates have registered to contest for various grassroots leadership positions representing different interest groups including youth, women, persons with disabilities, professionals, farmers, religious groups and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

UDA Chairman Anthony Mwaura said the party has put in place systems to ensure the exercise runs smoothly and transparently. “We have deployed technology end-to-end to manage the process, with 9,000 electronic voting tablets already distributed to polling centres. The results will also be available on a public portal on the UDA website,”he said.

The party said the elections will be conducted in about 8,819 polling centres, with voting expected to begin at 8:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, UDA Secretary General Omar Hassan defended the party’s popularity, saying recent by-election victories demonstrate continued public support for the ruling party despite criticism from some sections of the media. "Despite some media houses airing negative news about the government, UDA has continued to win in recent by-elections, which clearly shows that Kenyans are happy with the UDA government,”he said.

The grassroots elections are expected to produce about 150,000 officials who will represent party members at the local level as the party seeks to strengthen its internal leadership structures across the country.
