UHURU KENYATTA HONOURED BY WHO FOR CHAMPIONING PANDEMIC TREATY

Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has been awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the World Health Organization (WHO) for his instrumental role in advocating for the newly adopted WHO Pandemic Agreement.
The prestigious recognition was presented by WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus during a special event held at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva. The event celebrated the efforts of global leaders who played key roles in pushing for the treaty's adoption at the Seventy-eighth World Health Assembly held on May 20, 2025.
Uhuru was recognized for his active engagement and political advocacy which helped build momentum toward the historic agreement. The WHO Pandemic Agreement is aimed at strengthening global collaboration in preventing and responding to future pandemics, ensuring equitable access to vaccines, diagnostics, and treatment.
The former president was among 25 global leaders honored at the ceremony. Other notable awardees included leaders from South Africa, France, Germany, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, and Tunisia’s President Kais Saied.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Tedros praised the honorees for their commitment to global health and for prioritizing multilateralism in a time of global crisis.
Uhuru Kenyatta has remained active in international diplomacy and public service since leaving office in 2022, including serving as a peace envoy in regional conflicts and participating in various health and governance forums.
The recognition further cements his status as a prominent advocate for global cooperation in health and crisis response.
