VETERAN POLITICIAN DALMAS OTIENO DIES AT 80

Former Rongo Member of Parliament and long-serving Cabinet Minister Dalmas Otieno has died at the age of 80. The veteran politician, who held various ministerial portfolios under both the Moi and Kibaki administrations, was found dead at his residence in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, on Sunday.
The news of his death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the political spectrum. President William Ruto led the nation in mourning, describing Otieno as a visionary leader who left a legacy of good governance.
Otieno was a prominent figure in Kenyan politics for decades, first being elected to parliament in 1988. He served as the MP for Rongo for several terms and held key ministerial positions, including Minister of Industrialization and Minister of State for Public Service. Beyond politics, Otieno also had a distinguished career in the civil service. At the time of his death, he was serving as the Vice-Chairperson of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
