Uhuru is 'Undisputed Kingpin' of Mt. Kenya, Wamuchomba Declares in Fierce Defence
Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has waded into the escalating political drama in the Mount Kenya region, forcefully declaring former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the area's "undisputed kingpin." Her statement comes amid growing political attacks against Mr. Kenyatta following his recent critique of the current administration.
In a direct challenge to those attempting to dethrone the former Head of State as the region's political supremo, Wamuchomba stated that Mr. Kenyatta's influence and status were earned through sacrifice and not inherited.
"Uhuru Kenyatta is the undisputed Kingpin of the mountain, and he didn't force it on us," Wamuchomba asserted in her defence of the former president. "He unified the country... Attacking Uhuru is despising Kiambu and Kenya at large, and we are watching."
The outspoken legislator, who has increasingly become a vocal critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration despite being elected on the ruling coalition’s ticket, argued that Mr. Kenyatta earned the kingpin title by demonstrating his willingness to "take a bullet for the people of Mt. Kenya" during past political moments.
Her remarks are seen as a pointed jab at leaders within the current government, particularly those championing Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as the new de facto leader of the expansive region.
Wamuchomba cautioned those criticising Mr. Kenyatta's continued political involvement, stating that the former President "is now at liberty to bless anybody to take over from him." She also questioned the motives of those seeking to inherit a political party (Jubilee) that they had previously worked to discredit.
Her bold defence solidifies the perception of a growing rift in the Mount Kenya political landscape. While figures allied to the Deputy President maintain that the region's political leadership has transitioned to the current second-in-command, Wamuchomba's statement reinforces the view that Mr. Kenyatta remains a highly influential and respected figure whose political shadow continues to loom large over the region's eight million votes.
The remarks are expected to further ignite the succession debate and could isolate Wamuchomba from her former political allies within the ruling party.
