WIGAN HONOURS VETERAN

British High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan has presented replacement medals to a Kenyan soldier who served in the British Army during WWII. He presented the medals during his inspection tour in Kilifi County. The Burma Star and Africa Star are campaign medals awarded by the British government to military personnel who served in specific theaters of WWII. The African Star was awarded for service in North Africa between 1940 and 1943 while the Burma Star was awarded for service in the Burma Campaign, which took place from 1941-1945.

Neil Wigan together with the  Principal Secretary of the State Department for Investment Promotion Abubakar Hassan also  joined Kilifi County leaders led by Deputy Governor Florah Chibule, Kilifi Women Representative Getrude Mbeyu, Malindi MP Amina Mnyanzi, Sheilla ward MCA Twahir Abdulkarim and other officials at the Malindi Municipality offices during the inspection of projects implemented by British firms in the area including the Chilli Factory Equator and Solar Power Plant in Baolala to promote sustainable developments in the area.

 He also visited the Kenya Medical Research Institute(KEMRI), Kilifi and was welcomed by Dr. Abdullahi Ali, Ag. DG Prof. Elijah Songok and Deputy Director, CGMRC Dr. Sophie Uyoga. The visit focused on exploring avenues to increased research funding and strengthen, capacity in human health and quality of life through cutting-edge research, innovation, and advanced service delivery in Africa.
