AMREF FLYING DOCTORS CONFIRMS IDENTITIES OF MWIHOKO AIR CRASH VICTIMS

AMREF Flying Doctors has released the names of the four crew members who died in an aircraft crash in Mwihoko, Kiambu County, on Wednesday, August 7.

In a statement, Chief Executive Officer Stephen Gitau said the organization had suffered a significant loss and extended condolences to the affected families and the local community.

The accident involved a Cessna Citation 560 air ambulance, registration 5Y-FDM, which had taken off from Wilson Airport in Nairobi en route to Hargeisa, Somalia.

The four crew members were:

Captain Muthuka Munuve – A check pilot with nearly seven years of service and more than 10,000 hours of flying experience.

Captain Brian Kimani Miaro – An instructor captain with over 5,800 flying hours.

Dr Charles Mugo Njoroge – A medical doctor who had worked with AMREF for more than seven years.

Nurse Jane Rispah Aluoch Omusula – An emergency flight nurse with over four years of service.

AMREF reported that six people died in the crash, including two civilians on the ground. The organization’s crisis teams have met with seven families, offering emotional, psychological, and logistical support.

In partnership with the Kenya Red Cross, AMREF has provided displaced Mwihoko residents with mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, soap, and clothing.

The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder were recovered, although some parts of the FDR are still missing. Residents have been urged to report any debris found.

Government air accident investigators confirmed that the black box was found on Friday after an overnight search.

Gitau said AMREF would continue its mission despite the loss.
