ARCHBISHOP OLE SAPIT CALLS OUT RUTO, LISTS KEY DEMANDS

Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has delivered a scathing critique of President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of failing to curb corruption and neglecting key sectors of the economy.
Speaking on September 26, 2025, Sapit decried what he termed “deep-rooted graft” in government and demanded that all officials implicated in corruption step aside. He urged that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) be granted independent powers to prosecute cases without relying on the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Archbishop warned that rising youth unemployment and runaway government spending are fuelling public frustration, and challenged the government to urgently release capitation funds to schools and universities to end ongoing lecturer strikes.
Sapit also expressed alarm over the health crisis after private hospitals suspended Social Health Authority (SHA) services over unpaid government arrears. He demanded immediate settlement of the debts to avert a nationwide disruption of medical care.
In a sharp political rebuke, the cleric opposed proposals to extend the presidential term from five to seven years and called for an end to early political campaigns, warning that premature electioneering undermines governance.
“The government must restore public trust by acting decisively against corruption, funding health and education adequately, and respecting the Constitution,” Sapit said.
His remarks add moral weight to growing public pressure on the Ruto administration to deliver on its promises and strengthen accountability mechanisms.
