Bitcoin has soared to a record-breaking high of $120,000 (approximately Ksh 15.5 million), marking a historic moment for the world’s most popular cryptocurrency. The surge is attributed to growing institutional adoption, favorable regulatory outlooks, and renewed investor confidence.
The latest rally has seen Bitcoin rise over 15% in just the past week, with major financial institutions and asset managers increasing their crypto holdings. Experts say the market is responding positively to increased clarity from regulators in the U.S. and Europe, coupled with a wave of approval for crypto-related investment products such as spot Bitcoin ETFs.
Crypto analyst Fiona Muriuki of Nairobi-based Finchain Group says, “The fact that institutional players are now treating Bitcoin as a legitimate store of value has completely changed market sentiment. Retail investors are simply following the momentum.”
The milestone comes at a time when inflation concerns and a weakening dollar are pushing more investors toward alternative assets like cryptocurrencies.
Despite the record price, analysts warn of potential volatility. However, many predict that Bitcoin’s bullish trend could continue, especially if demand from institutional investors remains strong.
