BOMET NEMA BOSS ARRESTED FOR DEMANDING KSH.25,000 BRIBE

The County Director of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) in Bomet, Samuel Kariuki Ng’ang’a, has been arrested by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe of Ksh.25,000.
According to the EACC, the director demanded the bribe from the proprietor of a lodging facility in Mulot Township in exchange for allowing the business to continue operating without a valid Effluent Discharge License and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report—both of which are legally required.
EACC reports indicate that the complaint was received on July 22, 2025, and the suspect was arrested in a sting operation two days later while allegedly receiving the bribe in Bomet town. He was taken to Bomet Police Station, where he was booked and later released on a Ksh.30,000 cash bail pending further investigations.
The EACC has since reiterated its commitment to fighting corruption within public institutions, especially those entrusted with environmental oversight and regulatory compliance.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
