A family from Bureti is in mourning following the sudden death of their son who passed away shortly after winning a shot put game during a school sports championship.
Samwel Cheruiyot, a 16-year-old Grade 9 student at Chelilis Junior Secondary School, had emerged the winner in the shot put game when he fainted shortly after the games while celebrating his victory with fellow students.
He was rushed to Chelilis Clinic, where clinicians attempted to perform First Aid on him before he was rushed to the Litein hospital and later to the Kapkatet hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Cheruiyot's father said the family will wait for a postmortem to be conducted, adding that his son had suffered from epilepsy.
