CHINA OFFICIALLY BANS ACCESS TO ONLYFANS IN ONGOING INTERNET CRACKDOWN

The Chinese government has officially blocked access to UK-based platform OnlyFans, intensifying its sweeping campaign to control online activity and eliminate content deemed “unethical” or harmful to public morality.
The move, confirmed in mid-July 2025, comes after a brief window in late 2024 when the adult content subscription service was unexpectedly accessible on the mainland without the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), sparking online buzz and curiosity among netizens.
Authorities have now reinforced the ban, citing concerns over the spread of “obscene and immoral content” and the influence of what they describe as “Western corrupt values.” OnlyFans now joins a growing list of foreign platforms permanently restricted under China's Great Firewall, alongside Google, Instagram, WhatsApp, and others.
In China, pornography in all forms is strictly illegal, with harsh penalties for those involved in its production or distribution. The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) emphasized that content promoting “indecency or undermining public ethics” will not be tolerated in any digital space accessible to Chinese citizens.
While some users continue to access blocked platforms via VPNs, the government has cracked down on such tools in recent years, warning both providers and users of serious legal consequences.
The ban on OnlyFans reflects China’s continued effort to shape its digital ecosystem in line with conservative cultural values and increasing state control over online.
