DRAMA IN COURT AS SUSPECT IN KASIPUL MP MURDER CASE THREATENS TO KILL PROSECUTOR

A murder case involving United Democratic Alliance (UDA) official Ebel Ochieng Kalo took a serious turn on Wednesday after the suspect allegedly threatened a State Prosecutor during a court appearance.

Kalo, a board member of the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA), is among three suspects charged in connection with the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Were. The suspects appeared before Justice Diana Kavedza at the Milimani Law Courts.

According to the prosecution, Kalo verbally threatened Allan Mulama, a prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), prompting the officer to leave the courtroom.

“One of the accused persons, Ebel Ochieng, has threatened to kill the ODPP officer, Allan Mulama, forcing the state counsel to excuse himself from court,” the prosecution stated.

Justice Kavedza acknowledged the incident, expressing concern for the safety of both prosecutors and witnesses.

“I take note that the accused person has threatened to kill the prosecutor. The mere utterance of the words ‘huyu tutamuua’the question is, what about the witnesses?” the judge remarked.

Citing the threat and the seriousness of the case, the court denied bond for all three accused. The judge further ordered that the first accused, Kalo, be taken to Mathari Hospital for psychiatric evaluation. The third accused is to be held in isolation pending a mental assessment.

All three will remain in custody at Nairobi Remand Prison. The case is scheduled for mention on June 17, 2025, for further directions.
