EDUCATION CS BREAKS SILENCE ON ALLIANCE GIRLS TEACHER ABUSE

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has spoken out for the first time following public outrage over allegations of sexual harassment and abuse by a longtime teacher at Alliance Girls High School.
Without directly naming the school or the accused teacher, Ogamba condemned misconduct in schools and warned that all co-curricular activities must strictly follow Ministry and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) guidelines. He assured the public that officials who flout education regulations will face disciplinary action.
"Teachers and officials who flout rules and regulations in co-curricular activities will face disciplinary action," Ogamba said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
His comments come days after an exposé by Africa Uncensored detailed disturbing claims against Peter Ayiro, a teacher and Christian Union patron at Alliance Girls, accused of grooming and sexually harassing students over a period of years. Several alumni have come forward alleging that complaints lodged in 2018 and 2021 were ignored by the school administration.
The revelations have sparked national outrage, with rights groups such as FIDA-Kenya demanding immediate action, an independent investigation, and the adoption of strict gender-based violence (GBV) policies in all learning institutions.
“This case is not isolated. It reflects deep-rooted systemic failures in our schools,” said FIDA in a statement, urging the Ministry to prioritize student safety.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education is expected to work with the TSC and other relevant bodies to assess the situation and possibly initiate policy reforms to strengthen safeguards in schools.
Protests have already erupted outside Alliance Girls as alumni and activists demand accountability and justice for victims.
The TSC has not yet issued an official statement regarding the status of the accused teacher.
