The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has arrested five suspects in Kisii Town following a major crackdown on narcotics and illegal brews.
During the Friday August 15, morning operation, NACADA officers, backed by a special police unit, confiscated cannabis valued at approximately Ksh 2 million and a consignment of counterfeit alcoholic drinks.
Among those arrested is the wife of Geoffrey Nyabira, a fugitive facing drug trafficking charges at the Kisii Law Courts. Nyabira, identified as the main suspect, managed to escape during the raid and remains on the run.
According to NACADA, records recovered from Nyabira’s residence revealed he had distributed bhang worth over Ksh 1 million to his network just hours before the operation.
NACADA CEO Anthony Omerikwa vowed to dismantle the drug syndicate, warning that the agency will not relent in the fight against illicit drugs and alcohol.
The suspects are being held at Nyanchwa Police Station and will be charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act. Investigations are ongoing, with more arrests expected.
