GOVERNMENT TO FUND DIGITAL CONTENT CREATORS IN NEW EMPOWERMENT DRIVE

The government has announced plans to provide financial support to digital content creators as part of efforts to help them expand their ventures. According to State Department for ICT Principal Secretary, Eng. John Tanui, the initiative is designed to empower young creators and ensure they can access the funding needed to grow their businesses. “We are going to engage other Ministries to make sure young people can benefit from financial support. In addition, we are working with partners to unlock more funding and grants to strengthen the sector,” said Eng. Tanui. He revealed that the government has also partnered with Facebook’s parent company, META, to enable content creators to earn from their work.

“We are pleased with the collaboration with META, which has already helped us secure funding to boost the sector. This partnership also encourages other stakeholders to contribute. The government remains committed to supporting content creators,” he added. Eng. Tanui further noted that collaborations with global digital platforms such as META will not only enhance earnings but also expand access to infrastructure through digital hubs being established across the country.

He made these remarks during a meeting with more than 40 content creators at his Nairobi office earlier today. Highlighting international partnerships, Eng. Tanui said that through cooperation with the Government of South Korea, Kenya is building one of the largest digital media hubs at Konza Technopolis. Eng. Tanui also confirmed that the government is investing in creative enterprises by constructing digital hubs nationwide. “Centres of excellence, which are larger digital hubs, are being set up in every county. We are also working with Members of Parliament to ensure that every ward has a hub,” he explained.
