GOVT TO RESTORE LOST TITLE DEED REGISTERS IN NAIROBI, NAKURU

Kenya’s Ministry of Lands has moved to reconstruct missing property registers for parcels in Nairobi and Nakuru, after official records were reported lost.

According to gazette notices, the affected properties include a 0.52-hectare parcel in Nakuru registered to Maendeleo Ya Wanawake and a Nairobi property under Riverside Mansions (Management) Limited.

The ministry says sufficient evidence has been presented to prove the registers cannot be traced. Unless objections are filed within 60 days, the records will be reinstated under Section 33(5) of the Land Registration Act.

The development comes amid ongoing land digitisation reforms aimed at curbing fraud, tampering, and loss of manual files. Kenya has long battled land cartels accused of exploiting missing or altered records to enable double allocation and illegal transfers of prime property.

If no contest is lodged, the government will restore the records to ensure the legal rights of the listed owners remain recognised.
