The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has appointed Senior Principal Kadhi Sukyan Omar Hassan as the Acting Chief Kadhi, effective August 6, 2025.
Omar takes over following the death of Chief Kadhi Sheikh Athman Abdul-Halim on July 10, 2025. The appointment was approved during a JSC meeting held on July 14, 2025.
He will serve in the acting capacity for three months or until a substantive Chief Kadhi is appointed. The office is mandated to handle matters of Islamic law relating to personal status, marriage, divorce, and inheritance among Muslims in Kenya.
The JSC said the appointment ensures continuity in the administration of justice in Kadhi’s Courts across the country.
