LAWYER'S ASSASSINATION LINKED TO THAT OF LATE KASIPUL MP

While linking the recent broad daylight assassination of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu to that of the late Kasipul MP Charles Ong'ondo , Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has pointed out a disturbing “new wave” of organised crime tied to motorcycle-riding assassins.

Mbobu was fatally shot while seated in his car, stuck in traffic on the evening of Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Police have since described the attack as a targeted hit.

Cherargei drew chilling similarities between the lawyer’s death and a that of the Kasipul Law maker - in both cases the victims were hit in traffic related scenarios.

“You remember the MP who was shot similarly on the street. Yesterday, we saw a lawyer being shot in traffic, too,” the senator said, linking the killings as part of a broader pattern.

Moreover, the late Charles Were was gunned down in a strikingly similar manner by motorcycle-riding attackers, a case that remains unsolved. Cherargei warned that the method suggests a calculated plan to eliminate high-profile individuals through the trend.

“So I think there is a new wave of criminals who are using Boda Boda motorcycles to perpetrate crime,” he cautioned, urging immediate intervention.

He called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to act swiftly, saying the matter has now escalated into a national security threat. Cherargei further pressed for prompt investigations, insisting that the public must be reassured before Nairobi turns into a city where assassinations in traffic become the new norm.

This comes in the wake of a string of attacks by goons targeting civilians in Nairobi’s CBD — a situation that has raised concerns among residents and prompted Governor Sakaja to beef up security in the country’s central hub.
