AC Milan and Mike Maignan have reached a verbal agreement over a new contract, which is expected to be signed in the coming weeks, tagging along a significant pay rise.
Milan have been working on the renewal of Maignan and Theo Hernandez for quite some time. While the situation is unclear for the left-back, the goalkeeper has seemingly already made a decision to stay. Zlatan Ibrahimovic confirmed yesterday that negotiations are underway and as reported today, Maignan has given his ‘ok’ to the renewal. Both parties are expected to meet in the coming weeks to ratify the deal and sign the contract.
The figures of the new deal will be €5m plus bonuses until 2028 with an option for an additional year. The new contract has the same figures as the one Rafael Leao signed in 2023, although the bonuses might differ a little.
Considering Maignan currently earns just €2.8m per year net, the renewal is a big step forward for the goalkeeper. The slight drop in form recently has perhaps helped as well, since the interest abroad has cooled off a little.
Maignan’s current contract with the Italian club runs until June 2026. The French goalkeeper has been with Milan since the summer of 2021, when he joined from Lille for €13 million. This season, Maignan has played 36 matches, keeping 11 clean sheets.
Additionally, it has been reported that along with Maignan, Tijani Reijnders and Christian Pulisic are also set to renew their contracts with the club.
