MUNGATANA; WHY I VOTED TO IMPEACH GACHAGUA

Just a day after President Ruto revealed reasons for the impeachment of his former DP, Rigathi Gachagua, Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana came out revealing his whys on voting for the impeachment of Gachagua, stating that it stemmed from Gachagua's controversial revenue sharing policy.

Mungatana said that , Gachagua’s remarks on ‘one man, one vote, one shilling’ was the bone of contention, considering the demographic situation of his county.

In an morning session with a local TV station on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, Mungatana clarified that his county, having a vast land mass but less populated, would be disadvantaged by the ‘one man, one vote, one shilling’ strategy.
The senator furthered that such a policy would inadequately address the grievances of counties which have a geographical size that is inversely proportional to the population density.

“I voted against Gachagua, and even before that, I had an issue with what he was doing. He had started talking about ‘one man, one vote, one shilling’, and I was very offended,” he said.

“Because my county has a vast land mass and small population, automatically, one man, one vote will disadvantage us.

Among this, Mungatana’s also revealed his annoyance with Gachagua’s obsession with how the mountain region would benefit, adding that this was the reason he filed a censor motion against him.

“That debate got a lot of traction, and then he retreated on that; he stopped talking about that, and then he came up with the idea that he would fight for the mountain again. I took issue with that and even filed a censor motion,” Mungatana said.
