MURKOMEN WARNS DCP AGAINST DISRUPTING HARAMBEE STARS CHAN CLASH

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has warned the Democratic Change Party (DCP) against plans to disrupt Harambee Stars’ upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarter-final against Madagascar on Friday, August 22, at Kasarani.
Speaking in Nairobi, Murkomen said the government would not allow political activities to interfere with national sporting events, stressing that security agencies were on high alert.
“Any disruptive activities from all political actors, whether returning from abroad or within the country, will not be entertained in Kasarani. We want law and order to prevail,” Murkomen said.
The warning follows threats by DCP leaders, allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, that they would mobilize protests should Gachagua be arrested upon his return from the United States on Thursday.
Murkomen assured Kenyans that the Ministry was working closely with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to secure the match, including managing attendance numbers and crowd safety.
“I want to assure citizens that we will provide the necessary security to ensure the sports activity is successful. Once CAF confirms the numbers, we will call on Kenyans to turn up in large numbers and support Harambee Stars while abiding by the rules,” he added.
The high-stakes warning comes as Harambee Stars prepare for their crucial CHAN quarter-final, with government insisting politics will not be allowed to overshadow the national team’s campaign.
