The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has placed nine county governors on its watchlist over alleged involvement in corruption.
EACC Chairperson Dr. David Oginde said the agency is investigating the governors alongside other senior county officials in cases ranging from inflated tenders and procurement fraud to the diversion of public funds into private investments.
He revealed that in some instances, junior county staff were used as conduits to channel misappropriated resources, while other cases involved funds meant for marginalized counties being invested in Nairobi real estate and private businesses.
Oginde warned that political interference has hampered some of the investigations, citing incidents where supporters of suspects stormed EACC offices to disrupt operations.
The anti-graft agency maintained that no public officer will be spared in the ongoing crackdown on corruption, regardless of political position or influence.
