PUTIN OUTLINES NEXT MOVES IN UKRAINE WAR AFTER TALKS WITH INDIA’S MODI

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for urgent steps toward ending the war in Ukraine, stressing that any lasting peace must address NATO’s eastward expansion. Speaking after talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, Putin said Western military alliances remain the root cause of the conflict.
Putin also pointed to “understandings” reached with U.S. President Donald Trump during their recent Alaska summit, saying these could pave the way for progress. He thanked both China and India for their diplomatic efforts, describing their peace proposals as vital contributions to ending the crisis.
Prime Minister Modi welcomed the push for dialogue but urged all parties to act constructively. “We hope that all sides will move forward to end the conflict and establish lasting peace. This is the call of all humanity,” he said.
The meeting also reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between India and Russia, covering trade, energy, fertilisers, space, and security. Modi’s remarks came as New Delhi faces steep U.S. tariffs over its continued imports of discounted Russian oil — a move India defends as crucial for its energy security.
Putin is expected to visit India in December for further bilateral talks.
