RAILA FAULTS RUTO'S APOLOGY

Former Premier Raila Odinga has expressed a lacuna in President Ruto's apology to the victims of the 2024 anti finance bill protest , stating that it is not enough.

Speaking during the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations at the Raila Odinga Stadium, Homabay, Odinga raised fresh demands urging President Ruto to issue compensations to the families that lost their loved ones in the protests.

The ODM leader who had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kenya Kwanza government, seeing the formation of a broad-based government, commended Ruto's apology as a step of reconciliation , but, it should be accompanied by compensation.

''During the prayer breakfast, there were apologies from you and the Speaker. But then there are issues of people who were injured should be compensated. This will help their families so that we can close the chapter. We want Kenyans to live in peace," Odinga highlighted.

This follows President Ruto’s remarks during the National Prayer Breakfast in Safari Park on 28th May, where he apologised on behalf of Kenyans to both Tanzania and Gen Z, this came just after the guest preacher Rickey Allen Bolden, called for reconciliation between the political leaders and Kenyans .

Odinga further asked the head of state not to allow a resurfacing of the provincial government system of administration, terming it as a inhibiting factor of devolution.

However, the President downplayed Raila's demands, not responding .
