SALASYA — WAS ONCE DETAINED IN THE ROOM OJWANG DIED

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has made a startling revelation, disclosing that he was once detained in the same holding cell at Nairobi Central Police Station where the late Albert Ojwang’ was reportedly held before his tragic death.

Speaking during Ojwang’s requiem mass held in Nairobi on Wednesday, Salasya recounted his own time at the station, stating that based on the descriptions provided, he is convinced he and the slain blogger occupied the same room—albeit at different times.

The youthful lawmaker, who has already declared his intention to run for the presidency in 2027, used the platform to extend heartfelt condolences to Ojwang’s family. He admitted that he had long wished to meet them personally to offer his comfort, but circumstances had previously stood in the way.

“I’m grateful to the church for this moment,” he said, acknowledging that the requiem mass finally gave him a chance to stand with the grieving family. He also vowed to attend the burial ceremony scheduled for Friday, July 4, in Homa Bay.

Salasya’s revelation adds a deeply personal dimension to the public outrage surrounding Ojwang’s death in police custody—an incident that had sparked national concern over rising cases of alleged police brutality and custodial killings.
