SENATOR CHERARGEI; 5 TO 7 YEARS TERM LIMIT FOR RUTO

Nandi Senator , Samson Cherargei has defended his controversial submissions on extending the Presidential term limit from the default five to seven years.

During a radio interview on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Cherargei used both religious and logical arguments to back up the Seven term limit.

“Seven years is a holy number for us Christians,” he argued.

He ideologically defended his proposal stating that increasing the term limit would give the President an opportunity to deliver his manifesto , without interference from the politicking norm that is subscribed to in the 5 - year term.

“We have subjected this country to continuous campaigning. We barely give elected leaders enough time to work," the Senator said.

Above that, he express his frustrations with Kenyans comparing President Ruto to the late President Mwai Kibaki, stating that the Thika Superhighway was a success because Kibaki had been in office for ten years while Ruto is barely three years.

"People are already comparing President Ruto to former President Kibaki, who served for ten years. Ruto has only been in office for three years, but you’ll hear people saying, ‘Kibaki alijenga Thika Super Highway’,” Cherargei stated.
