SIFUNA DENIES SECRET MEETINGS WITH GACHAGUA

Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has firmly denied claims that he has been holding secret political meetings with impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Addressing the allegations on Tuesday July 22, 2025, Sifuna clarified that he has only met Gachagua on two occasions: first at a funeral in Nyeri, and later during Gachagua’s impeachment hearing in the Senate on October 17, 2024.
“I have met the former Deputy President twice. The first time was at a funeral in Nyeri, and the second was when he came to the Senate for his impeachment hearing,” Sifuna stated.
He dismissed the allegations as political propaganda, adding that those behind the rumors were attempting to discredit him.
“When the hyena wants to eat its children, it accuses them of smelling like a goat,” he remarked.
Sifuna also noted that Gachagua is no longer eligible to run for office following his impeachment, and emphasized that any public attention the former deputy attracts is politically insignificant unless it weakens President William Ruto’s re-election prospects.
The senator reaffirmed his commitment to ODM and dismissed any notion of aligning with rival political camps ahead of the 2027 General Election.
