SONKO RESCUES KIMANI MBUGUA AFTER RELAPSE
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has once again stepped in to help former journalist Kimani Mbugua, who had reportedly relapsed and returned to the streets. Acting on distressing reports, Sonko dispatched a team that found Mbugua in Makongeni Estate, Thika, Kiambu County, in a fragile state.
Eyewitnesses had shared images of Mbugua wandering the streets, prompting a public outcry on social media. Concerned Kenyans tagged Sonko, urging him to intervene.
Upon his rescue, an emotional Mbugua acknowledged his struggles and expressed gratitude. “I had given up, but this act of kindness has renewed my hope. I just need support to fully recover,” he said.
Sonko, addressing the media, reiterated his commitment to helping those in distress. “No one should be left to suffer alone. Kimani is talented, and we will ensure he gets the right treatment and support,” he stated.
This latest intervention has reignited discussions on mental health and rehabilitation support in Kenya. Experts warn that one-time rescues are not enough. “Sustained care, therapy, and reintegration into society are key to preventing relapses,” said Dr. Lucy Wanjiru, a mental health specialist.
Mbugua’s story is a stark reminder of the struggles many face with mental health and substance abuse. His supporters hope that with proper care, he can reclaim his once-promising career in journalism and rebuild his life.
