On February 27, 2025, Kalonzo made fun of Ruto at the People's Liberation Party launch in Nairobi, where he referred to the president's alleged dishonesty by calling him "Kaongo.
" This moment caught attention. In response to a previous moniker Ruto had given him, "mtu ya katikati," which means "a man of the middle.
" Ruto had used this to suggest that Kalonzo was unsure of his political stance, but Kalonzo reversed this and claimed that "Kaongo" was a better fit for Ruto, suggesting that the president is slick and unreliable in his leadership.
During his speech, Kalonzo accused Ruto of deceiving Kenyans with hollow promises and not keeping his word.
The comment has generated discussions in political circles and on social media, with Kenyans questioning whether it was merely political teasing or a deeper indication of tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.
