TUJU SPEAKS OUT ON RUNNING FOR SIAYA GOVERNOR AGAINST ORENGO IN 2027

Former Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju has addressed speculation about his political future, particularly the possibility of challenging Siaya Governor James Orengo in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Monday August 25, 2025, Tuju downplayed the prospects of joining the Siaya gubernatorial race, saying he does not believe he would perform any better than Orengo. He argued that county governments face deep systemic and structural challenges that go beyond the leadership of a single individual.
“I don’t think I can do more than Orengo under the current circumstances. The challenges are structural, not personal,” Tuju remarked.
He also pointed out that his business base in Nairobi, which supports over 100 families, would be significantly affected if he relocated to Siaya to pursue the governorship. According to Tuju, such a decision would require careful family consultation and consideration of the broader impact on livelihoods tied to his enterprises.
While Tuju did not entirely shut the door on the possibility of running, his remarks suggest he is reluctant to step into the 2027 Siaya political contest.
Governor Orengo, a seasoned politician and close ally of Raila Odinga, is expected to defend his seat when Kenyans head to the polls in 2027.
