US AMBASSADOR TO RUSSIA LEAVES HER POST AS TENSION RISES

The United States Ambassador to Russia, Lynne Tracy, has officially stepped down from her post, according to a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Moscow on Thursday.

“Ambassador Tracy is concluding her mission at the U.S. Embassy in Russia,” the embassy announced, without offering additional details regarding the departure or her successor.

Tracy, a seasoned American diplomat, assumed her role in January 2023 following her nomination by then-President Joe Biden. She replaced Ambassador John Sullivan and served during a period marked by heightened tensions between Washington and Moscow, primarily due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Her approximately two-year tenure aligns with the duration served by her predecessor.

Throughout her diplomatic career, Tracy held posts in several countries, including Armenia, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Before her ambassadorship, she served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow (2014–2017) and as Senior Advisor for Russia Affairs at the U.S. State Department (2017–2018).

Tracy’s departure comes at a time when both the United States and Russia are engaging in renewed dialogue, with recent contacts initiated under the current U.S. administration aimed at stabilizing bilateral relations.

Tracy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Soviet Studies from the University of Georgia and a Juris Doctor from the University of Akron. Her service has been recognized with honors, including the Secretary’s Award for Heroism and the Department of State’s Distinguished Honor Award.
