Reports indicate that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to pay US President Donald Trump $1 billion a month for military equipment.
In a press statement released on September 30, Zelenskyy detailed the latest progress under the PURL initiative, a NATO-backed funding mechanism designed to streamline allied contributions into direct military support for Ukraine.
The initiative aims to provide $1 billion per month in defense capabilities, including US-made Patriot missile systems and other high-value equipment, amid Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia.
“The PURL initiative is a high-value NATO mechanism that converts allied support into tangible capabilities for Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.
“It allows us to procure defensive weapons we urgently need to save more lives… and it is already delivering real results.”
The $1 billion figure will be used to procure defensive weapons we urgently need to save more lives, such as Patriots and other critical American equipment, and it is already delivering real results. The funds are channeled through coordinated NATO arrangements with the US defense industry to expedite arms deliveries to Kyiv.
