INSTAGRAM INTRODUCES NEW RULE FOR ACCESSING LIVE FEATURE

Instagram has announced a major change to its Live feature, On August 2, 2025, restricting access to users with public accounts and at least 1,000 followers. This new policy marks a shift from the previous rule, which allowed anyone regardless of account type or follower count to host live sessions. The update, rolled out by Meta, is expected to impact thousands of users, particularly smaller creators who rely on Live to engage with their audience and grow their presence. Under the new guidelines, users with fewer than 1,000 followers or private accounts will no longer be able to stream live, though they can still view live sessions.

This change eliminates the flexibility that previously allowed influencers, businesses, and everyday users, regardless of their following, to use the Live feature. Those affected by the update are receiving notifications informing them that their accounts no longer qualify to go live, citing the new follower count and account-type requirements. Live streaming has been one of Instagram’s key tools for user engagement, allowing real-time interaction between creators and followers. The update particularly disadvantages small creators who rely on Live sessions to build their online presence. Without access to this feature, their ability to reach new audiences and grow their accounts could be limited.

Additionally, Instagram is introducing safety tips for teens when initiating chats, showing the month and year an account was created to encourage caution when engaging with others. These tips remind teens to look closely at the other person’s profile and to be cautious about sharing any information if something feels off.
