KENYA MARKS BASTILLE DAY WITH FRANCE, MUDAVADI REAFFIRMS BILATERAL TIES

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Monday July 14, 2025, represented Kenya at the 145th anniversary celebrations of the French National Day, commonly known as Bastille Day, hosted by the French Embassy in Nairobi.
Mudavadi, who also oversees the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, joined French Ambassador to Kenya Arnaud Suquet and other dignitaries at the event that underscored the enduring diplomatic relations between Kenya and France.
In his remarks, Mudavadi hailed the strong and historic ties between the two nations, noting that both Kenya and France are bound by shared democratic values, respect for institutions, and the pursuit of unity and peace. He emphasized that Kenya remains resilient and committed to strengthening international partnerships, especially in times of domestic and global challenges.
“We value France not only as a long-standing development partner but also as a key ally in promoting democracy, peace, and youth engagement,” Mudavadi said.
The event, which drew members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and civil society representatives, celebrated France’s 1789 revolution that symbolizes liberty, equality, and fraternity — ideals that both nations continue to uphold in their governance and bilateral engagement.
Ambassador Suquet reaffirmed France’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Kenya across multiple sectors, including education, energy, culture, and regional security. He thanked Kenya for its continued friendship and expressed optimism for future collaborations.
This year’s Bastille Day came amid Kenya’s own national reflections, with Mudavadi assuring the international community of Kenya’s democratic resilience and institutional maturity.
“The decision to proceed with this event is a testament to the strength and stability of Kenya’s democratic path,” he added.
The event closed with cultural showcases and reaffirmed France’s enduring presence and partnership in Kenya’s development journey.
