U.S. authorities have arrested a Kenyan man accused of offering the equivalent of Ksh18,000 to a 15-year-old in exchange for sexual favours.
Investigators say the suspect was caught in an undercover sting operation after detectives, posing as the teenager, arranged a meeting to confirm the illicit proposal.
The man now faces federal charges of attempting to entice a minor and child sexual exploitation. Prosecutors indicated he will be presented in a U.S. federal court, where a conviction could lead to a lengthy prison sentence.
Kenya’s consular officials in the United States have reportedly been notified of the arrest. Meanwhile, law-enforcement agencies are warning parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s online interactions, noting that predators often use social media and messaging platforms to target minors.
