Kenya’s Harambee Stars has sealed top spot in Group A after edging out Zambia 1-0 in a tense encounter at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday, August 17.

Tusker FC forward Ryan Ogam broke the dead lock after striking the decisive goal in the 75th minute. His composed finish followed a clever build-up from Cliff Muchiri.

This win marks Stars undefeated spree with ten points on top of group A—just a point ahead of Morocco.
The result now sets up a quarter-final date with Madagascar on Friday, August 22.

Zambia pushed for a late equaliser, but Star's goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo produced a stunning stop to deny Mubanga. In stoppage time, Marvin Nabwire and Muchiri tested Zambia's goalkeeper Kalumba again, but the 1-0 margin held firm until the final whistle.

Kenya's victory follows extra motivations from President William Ruto , who pledged a Ksh 2.5 million for each player if Kenya won, with an additional Ksh 1 million and a two-bedroom affordable home awaiting them should they progress past the quarter-finals.

“We’ve agreed on rewards,” the President told players after their earlier win over Morocco. “Victory against Zambia earns each player Ksh 2.5 million. If you succeed in the quarter-finals, you will each get Ksh 1 million and a house in a location of your choice.”
