Portuguese international and Liverpool striker Diogo Jota, 28, along with his younger brother André Silva, 25, died in a fatal road accident near Cernadilla, Zamora, Spain, in the early hours of July 3 2025 .
The brothers were traveling in their Lamborghini when a tyre burst, causing the vehicle to veer off the A‑52 motorway and catch fire, leading to their immediate deaths .
Jota, who had just married his long‑term partner on June 22 and is father to three young children, was a celebrated forward with nearly 50 caps for Portugal. He joined Liverpool in 2020 and claimed multiple trophies, including the Premier League .
André Silva was also a professional footballer, having played as a winger for F.C. Penafiel in Portugal’s second division .
Liverpool FC and the Portuguese Football Federation expressed deep sorrow, calling the club and country “devastated” and requesting privacy for the bereaved families .
Tributes poured in from across football—from former teammates like Jamie Carragher to national leaders—while UEFA observed a minute’s silence ahead of Portugal’s Women’s Euro match .
This tragedy has sent shockwaves through the global football community, mourning the loss of two outstanding athletes and brothers taken far too soon.
