U.S ISSUES TRAVEL WARNING FOR UGANDANS SEEKING BIRTH TOURISM

The United States has issued a cautionary advisory to Ugandan citizens planning to travel to America with the intention of giving birth. In a statement posted by the U.S. Embassy in Kampala, the embassy highlighted increasing scrutiny over what it described as “birth tourism” a practice where foreign nationals travel to the U.S. to obtain American citizenship for their children.
According to the embassy, individuals attempting to travel for this purpose may face intense questioning at visa interviews and upon arrival in the U.S. The advisory noted that obtaining a visa does not guarantee entry and that immigration officers have the authority to deny admission if they suspect deception or misuse of visa terms.
“While giving birth in the United States is not illegal, failure to disclose the true purpose of travel can lead to visa denial or revocation,” the statement read in part.
The advisory comes amid growing efforts by U.S. immigration authorities to crack down on what they say is the exploitation of birthright citizenship laws.
Ugandan citizens are advised to be honest in their visa applications and ensure they meet all the legal and financial requirements before traveling. The U.S. embassy further cautioned that travelers must prove their ability to pay for medical expenses without relying on public resources.
This move has sparked conversations online, with some critics calling it discriminatory, while others argue that the warning simply enforces existing immigration policies. The Ugandan government has not yet officially responded to the U.S. directive.
